I think about the people hearing the prayer and how they are being led in the prayer... but ultimately I am talking to God. Praying outloud is still different than praying in quiet- I don't think that is a bad thing unless the heart is not right.
When each of our children have learned to pray aloud (Ellie is in that stage right now), they will close their eyes, pray, then after "Amen" proceed to tell me what it was they prayed about. "Mommy, I thanked God for our food!" It's as though they assume that other people can't hear them – after all, they are talking to God. This is an attitude I try to keep when I have to pray in front of others, too.
